Budget Session: Telangana Governor addresses joint session of Legislature

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Wednesday delivered the budget speech while addressing the joint budget session of the state assembly and legislative council. During his 36-minute address, the governor highlighted various initiatives taken by the Congress government. The speech was based on a 17-page English document outlining the state's achievements and future plans. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, and Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy accompanied the governor on the dais.

Telangana's commitment underlined

In his speech, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma underlined Telangana's commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development. He praised the state's transformation driven by bold reforms, people-centric governance, and decisive leadership. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma emphasised the government's focus on serving the people and promoting a future based on dignity and justice. The major initiatives highlighted in the speech include the waiver of crop loans of Rs 2 lakh and increased financial assistance under the Raitu Bharosa scheme to support farmers.

Mention of Mahalaxmi Yojana and Indira Mahila Shakti Mission

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma also lauded Telangana's emergence as the top producer of paddy in the country and the State's efforts to secure its fair share of Krishna river water. On women empowerment, Governor Varma spoke about the transformative Mahalakshmi Yojana and Indira Mahila Shakti Mission, which aim to promote entrepreneurship and financial independence for women. He also mentioned initiatives like Yuva Bharat Skill University and Rajiv Gandhi Nagrik Abhaya Hastham Yojana, which focus on empowering the youth.

A display of the rich cultural identity of Telangana

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma celebrated Telangana's rich cultural identity, mentioning the state's plans to adopt "Jai Jaihe Telangana Janani Jai Ketanam" as the official state song and honour literary icons such as Gaddar and Bandi Yadagiri. Reaffirming the government's commitment to agriculture, education, and social welfare, Governor Varma emphasised the administration's commitment to ensuring overall progress for Telangana.
