Volodymyr Zelensky said it would not be easy to replace him as Ukraine's president . Speaking to British media on Sunday, he repeated his offer to step down in exchange for his war-torn country's membership in NATO. US Republicans have suggested he may have to resign after US President Donald Trump dramatically turned on him during a controversial Oval Office meeting about the war with Russia on Friday. "If they replace me, if they see what's happening, if they support me, it won't be easy to replace me," Zelensky told British media.

"It's not enough to just hold elections
. You shouldn't let me contest. It's going to be a little difficult. It looks like you're going to have to negotiate with me," he added. "AndI said I was changing for NATO.. Then I accomplished my goal.” Zelensky left the White House without signing a preliminary agreement on sharing Ukraine’s mineral rights after an unprecedented public row in the Oval Office. As European leaders rallied around Ukraine, Republican officials questioned whether any deal with Russia could be reached as long as Zelensky was on the news on Sunday.
We need a leader who can end the war.
“We need a leader who can deal with us, who can deal with the Russians, who can end this war,” National Security Adviser Mike Waltz told CNN. “If it becomes clear that President Zelensky’s personal motivations or political motivations are different from ending the fighting in this country, I think we have a real problem.” House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, also questioned whether Zelensky was fit for the job. “He needs to come to his senses and come back to the table with gratitude, or someone else needs to lead the country.” Zelensky has called for Ukraine to be granted NATO membership as part of any deal to end the war. But the Washington-led alliance has been reluctant to commit.
